Mountain Valley Conference tournaments kick off tonight

ELKIN - The Mountain Valley Conference baseball and softball tournaments kick off tonight around the Yadkin Valley.


The first round of the baseball tournament begins tonight at the higher-seeded school with the semifinals and championship game scheduled at North Wilkes.

Regular-season champion Wilkes Central takes on No. 8 East Wilkes, while second-seeded Forbush welcomes Ashe County. Third-seeded Alleghany hosts No. 6 Elkin in a 1A rivalry showdown, while West Wilkes and Starmount square off in the 4-5 matchup in Millers Creek.

The semifinal games are scheduled for tomorrow night at 4:30 p.m. and approximately 7:30 p.m. in Hays. The championship bout is set for Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at North.


Likewise, the opening round of the softball tourney is set to kick off tonight at the higher-seeded schools. The semifinal and championship matches are scheduled for Friday and Monday at Ashe County.

Regular-season champion West Wilkes looks to open its title defense against No. 8 Alleghany, while second-seeded East Wilkes hosts No. 7 Starmount. Third-seeded Forbush welcomes Ashe County, while No. 4 Elkin and No. 5 Wilkes Central square off at Crater Park.

The semis are set for Friday night at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., with the championship game scheduled for Monday night at 6:30 p.m. in West Jefferson.
