Hammering the 5k results

The Habitat Hammer 5k was held on April 27 starting at the Elkin Recreation Center.

Children and adults of all ages per permitted to participate in the family-friendly walk/run benefiting the Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity.

The top runners to cross the finish line were Daniel Brooks (27) of N. Wilksboro who finished first with a time of 18:51; second was Logan Haynes (18) of Hamptonville at 19:12; third was Michael Keller (37) of Elkin at 20:47.

The top female runners to cross the finish line were Deanne Fitzgerald (35) of State Road who finished first with a time of 20:53; second was Madeline Carter of Elkin at 22:05; and third was Catie Brown (12) of State Road.

Edwin Howard, Jr. of Winston-Salem entered the race at 70-years old. He was the only 70+ to enter the race, and his time was 43:21. He was not the last to finish the race, show posted results.
