After completion of an analysis to build an indoor aquatics center, the Town of Elkin rejected the concept of building a new indoor pool.
According to town officials, the plan is cost-prohibitive.
“The indoor pool analysis came at the request of the Board during the retreat,” said town Manager Lloyd Payne. “The projected losses for an indoor pool are too substantial for us to consider at this time. Even if a substantial campaign, along with grant funds paid for the pool and no debt service would be incurred, the projected operational loss of almost $190, 000 and that is not something the Board and staff felt could be absorb in these uncertain economic times.”
