Elks top North Wilkes to stay perfect

ELKIN - The Buckin’ Elks continued their roll through the Mountain Valley Conference.

Reigning league champion Elkin breezed past North Wilkes Thursday 8-1 to stay perfect on the year.

Ashton Gant, Jacob Lyon, Chance Hogan and Riki Rendon swept their singles matches to power the Elks on the afternoon. David Bullins topped Patrick Jackson 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while Reid Turner battled past Dakota Bell 7-5, 2-6, 7-3 to round out a singles sweep.

In doubles play, the pairs of Bullins/Gant and Hogan/Rendon cruised to dominating victories at No. 1 and 3 matches. The Elks forfeited the final doubles match.

Elkin (7-0) returns to the court Monday against crosstown rival Starmount in Boonville.
