Nicole Defreitas, a student at Elkin High School, served as a page in the North Carolina General Assembly last week.
She traveled to Raleigh and was able to “perform valuable duties for the Senators and their office staff,” according to a letter from N.C. Senate President Pro-Tempore Phil Berger, of Rockingham County.
“The North Carolina Senate was honored recently to have Nicole Ashley Defreitas, a student of Elkin High School, serve as a page,” said Berger.
“Pages attend daily Senate sessions, committee meetings, and assist staff members with office duties during the week they serve in the Legislature,” he said.
Defreitas was sponsored by Sen. Shirley Randleman, the Republican Senator for the 94th District, and appointed by Berger.
High school students in the 9th through 12th grades are eligible to serve as pages. For more information on the page program, visit www.ncleg.net/senate/pages/howtoapply.html.
