The Elkin Board of Commissioners will hear and see some of the proposed uses and design elements for the Smith Phillips property at their regular board meeting of January 14 at 7 p.m.
The Town is encouraging the public to participate in the presentation, especially those who were originally involved in the workshops of Dec. 11 and 12.
According to officials, a PowerPoint presentation will be made with time for discussion and questions following the presentation.
“The Design Workshops were conducted by Design Link, a program of the Center for Creative Economy,” said Leslie Schlender, Economic Director for the Town of Elkin. “This team created the design concepts and illustrations and will be presenting them back to the community on the 14th. I’m looking forward to seeing the initial concepts in visual form – it will be an exciting presentation.
“Of course our very next steps for this project will be to identify potential sources of funding and gauge how successfully we could be at securing enough funding to kick start the redevelopment,” continues Schlender.
According to the Town, over 50 community members attended the sessions held at the Elkin Center in December. Working groups discussed topics such as building use, site planning and access to and from the site.
The Tribune will attend next Monday’s regular board meeting.
