With Christmas on the horizon, weekend activities are shaping up.
Below are some of the activities taking place. Tribune staff will be on the scene covering these events and taking photos for the Monday edition of The Tribune.
-Light Up Night and Open House in Historic Downtown Elkin will run from 5-8 p.m on Friday, Dec. 7. Attendees can come and enjoy buggy rides, music, shopping spree drawings, refreshments, and listening to the sounds of Christmas carolers as they serenade the crowd.
-The Fairfield Inn & Suites located on CC Camp Road in Elkin will host its Celebrating the Magic of Christmas 2012 Winter Wine and Craft Festival. Festivities begin on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. with a Santa meet and greet. Mrs. Claus will read to children starting at 7 p.m. St. Nick is available for your family Christmas portraits by Shutterbug Photography. Saturday’s wine and craft festival kicks off at 12:30 p.m. featuring wine tasting and unique crafts offered by local vendors. It’s a great opportunity to find additional Christmas items and stocking stuffers.
-The Arlington First Baptist Church in Jonesville will present its nativity drama this Friday and Saturday. The presentation takes approximately 30-minutes and runs from 6:30-9 p.m. The nativity drama consists of six scenes. It’s narrated by John Wishon, owner of 3WC Radio 1240 AM. The church is located at 345 South Main St. in Jonesville.
-On Saturday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., the Foothills Art Council will hold The Open Air Market in Elkin. Artists from around the state will be under the big tents, as the Council continues its Art in the Garden series. The event is a new spin on an old world market with fire pits, S’mores making station, a “Home Is Where the Heart Is” quilt display, and even fresh greenery.
-The Elkin Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. The theme this year is “A Christmas Wish List.”
