The Christmas season will begin with song on Dec. 1 at Elkin First Baptist Church.
After two months of practice, the Community Chorus will be presenting its 52nd Christmas performance at the First Baptist Church. The first performance will start at 4 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m.
Voices in this year’s concert will come from far and wide. This year’s director, David McCollum, said the Community Chorus is made up of approximately 78 singers representing at least 32 churches across the area.
Fran Greene has been involved in the chorus since its beginning almost 50 years ago and has directed some portion of the performance each year, however McCollum has been the director now for several years.
Amy Johnson and Amy Tayloe helped McCollum in this year’s selection of music.
“We are performing some of my own music that I’ve written and several other classics,” McCollum said.
The concert is free to the public, but attendees are encouraged to come early for a good seat. The community chorus presentation of the Christmas concert is a highly attended Christmas event year after year.
