Jonathan Brewer, a rising JROTC senior at Surry Central High School, attended the Future Leader Camp (FLC), a two-week leadership development program for high school students held at Norwich University in Vermont, during the summer of 2012.
The goal of FLC is to instill the basic concepts of small group leadership principles and techniques, teamwork, problem solving and effective communications while enhancing a sense of self-confidence, self-respect and self-discipline, Jonathan met all requirements. He has served as team leader for his 10-person team and was evaluated by the counselors.
Extreme physical challenges include 7 mile hikes over Mt. Ascutney and climbing and rappelling the 80 ft rock face of Deer Leap Mountain. Any young man attending a program as physically challenging as FLC and then be held accountable for the supervision and needs of 10 individuals is an exceptional challenge and achievement.
Jonathan Brewer has been accepted into the Corps of Cadets and into the program of physics for the fall 2013 term. His academic background, participation in activities, honors, accomplishments and personal character traits were all carefully weighted in the decision to invite him to attend Norwich University.
