Robert Clyde Shelton, age 94 of Jonesville passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at his home. Mr. Shelton was born in Yadkin County on August 10, 1918 to the late Lewis and Laura Nance Shelton. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in World War II. During his time in the services he worked as a Cryptographer. Mr. Shelton retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company after 36 years of service. He was an active member of Arlington First Baptist Church for 65 years, served as Church Treasurer for 50 years, was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, and was a Deacon.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Omie Wagoner Shelton; and son-in-law, Jerry Triplett.

Mr. Shelton is survived by two daughters, Carol S. Triplett of Wilkesboro, Alene S Luffman & husband Max of Elkin; step-granddaughter, Sonya Richardson & husband Kenneth of Huntersville ; step-grandson, Russell Triplett & LeeAnn Brown of North Wilkesboro.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00p.m., Friday, November 9, 2012 at Arlington First Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Church and Pastor Jerry Fugate officiating. Mr. Shelton will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery with military honors presented by the National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 6:00-8:30p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane #200 Mount Airy, NC or Arlington First Baptist Church, 345 South Main Street Jonesville, NC 28642.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice, James & Barbara Freeman, Dr. Evan Ballard and the Jonesville Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave to Mr. Shelton.
