Surry Community College student Nazzel Bell was awarded the North Carolina Association for Developmental Education’s (NCADE) Outstanding Alumnus of the Year for 2012 on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Nazzel was chosen based on his accomplishments both in the classroom and in the community. An award winner must be a former student of a program associated with NCADE and based on the student’s academic record, a source of pride for the program. Nazzel was invited to speak to Association members at the North Carolina Community College System Conference in Raleigh earlier this month. He received a plaque and an honorarium.
In his speech, Nazzel highlighted his academic experiences which helped him become a successful student. He also credited Surry Community College and all the conscientious instructors with providing him the support he needed to achieve success. Nazzel was accompanied by his wife and one of his three sons. He and his family live in Mount Airy.
Nazzel is currently finishing both an associate in science and an associate in arts degree at Surry. His goal is to transfer to North Carolina State University in the spring to pursue a bachelor of science in engineering.
