Stabbing incident in Mount Airy under investigation

Emergency crews and Mount Airy Police officers responded to the scene of a reported stabbing late Friday evening, but few details were available at press time Saturday.

Telecommunicators with Surry County 911 Communications dispatched Mount Airy Rescue Squad, Mount Airy Fire Department and Surry County EMS to assist the police department at 329 Taylor St., where a woman allegedly stabbed a man in the side, according to 911 radio transmissions.

According to Surry County EMS Director John Shelton, the man was found on foot on Willow Street where he was treated for apparent critical wounds by county medical services personnel. The subject was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Health and is reportedly in stable condition.

Sgt. Mike Bumgardner with the police department said more information was likely not going to be released until Monday due to the ongoing investigation surrounding the incident.
