An arrest has been made in the case of the murder of Sgt. Gregory Keith Martin who was shot and killed while on duty in Jonesville on Oct. 5, 1996, at approximately 2:42 a.m.
During a traffic stop on the side of I-77 in Yadkin county, Marin, a 30-year-old sergeant with the Jonesville Police Department was shot multiple times, resulting in his death on Saturday, October 5, 1996.
Today, on Oct. 3, almost 16 years to the day, members of Jonesville Police Department,Elkin Police Department, NC State Bureau of Investigation, and Federal Bureau of Investigation in a joint investigative effort obtained information which has led to the arrest of Scott Vincent Sicaa for the murder of Sgt. Martin on Oct. 5, 1996.
The investigation is continuing and there are no other details available at this time.
A press conference is planned to be held at the Jonesville Police Department on Oct. 4 at 11 p.m., prior to the annual memorial service.
“Basically an arrest was made today with the connection with the homicide of Sgt. Gregory Keith Martin. Tomorrow will be 16 years. The time he was killed was approximately 2:30 in the morning on the Oct. 5. Basically every year since that time we’ve done a memorial service, this year will be no different,” said Jonesville Police Department Scott Vestall.
