This summer’s second race in the Vineyard Stomp 5K series will take place this Saturday at Stony Knoll Vineyards and will benefit the Foothills Food Pantry.
“I used to serve on the Foothills Food Pantry board, and I saw need and I saw how the Foothills Food Pantry helped a lot of people in the foothills of Northwest North Carolina,” said Van Coe, owner of Stony Knoll Vineyards. “We want to make sure there is a good food stock going into winter, and that’s why we’ve chosen to donate the proceeds to Foothills Food Pantry.”
The race, which is appropriate for runners of all abilities, begins at 11 a.m., with on-site registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration is available for each race in the series or the entire race series at www.active.com. Each race is $32 or $28 with early registration.
Following the race is a 1K Wine Walk through the vineyard to sample wines from Stony Knoll, Huttson Winery and Surry Oak Vineyard. The Wine Walk is free to registered runners and $15 for non-runners. Libby Haynes will provide live music and Cross Roads Cafe will be catering Saturday’s event.
Stony Knoll Vineyards has partnered with other Surry County Wineries to host a Vineyard Stomp 5K race series. The Vineyard Stomp is a series of four cross-country runs through and around wineries and vineyards. The first race in the series was held at Grassy Creek June 30.
Other remaining race dates in the series are Sept. 15 at Olde Mill Vineyards and Oct. 27 at Round Peak Vineyards.
Stony Knoll Vineyards is located at 1143 Stony Knoll Road in Dobson.
