The administrators and directors of programming at Elkin City Schools held their annual Administrative Retreat on July 17 and 18 in the Board Room at the ECS Administrative Center.

Superintendent Dr. Randy Bledsoe described the annual meeting as “a time for us to reflect on last year’s programs and results, discuss areas to improve our school climate and academic achievement, analyze recent public school legislation, and to implement goals and strategies for the upcoming year.”

Specific areas that were discussed included: Britt Shaw-Technology Updates and Internet Use, Barbara Long-Career and Technical Education, John Altemueller-Maintenance Requests, Jan Zachary-Capital Outlay/Finance/Updates on Legislation, Shelia Settle-Testing and Accountability, Allison Moxley-Personnel and Substitute Teachers, Karen Spencer-AIG Program, and Cynthia Altemueller-Common Core and Essential Standards Implementation and Title II/III.

Other areas discussed by the principals and assistant principals included: student attendance, teacher leadership, the ECS Strategic Plan, the Teacher Working Conditions Survey, the ACT/EXPLORE/PLAN for ECS, and the importance of school based decision-making based on collected test data and information. Early data collection indicates high student performance at all three schools.

The 2012-13 school year begins for staff on August 2 and for students on August 13.
