With Elkin City Schools starting back in less than a month, Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce is collecting school supplies to donate to local teachers.

The Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce will be receiving donations through July 29.

“We’ve already gotten a little bit, but we just started it up last week, so hopefully more will start coming in,” said Laurette Leagon, president of Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce.

This is the fourth year the Chamber has collected school supplies for Elkin City Schools.

“The idea came from a combination of Lori Gwyn, she’s vice chair for community betterment with the chamber, and Misty Matthews,” said Leagon. “This has been done through other Chambers, and so they thought it would be good and useful to do here in Elkin.

Leagon said the donations have been greatly appreciated in the past.

“The school system and the individual teachers have always been very appreciative, and the business community has been extremely giving,”she said.

All items can be delivered to the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce office at 116 East Market Street.
